• Has had at least one nightclub playing Goth music since the early 1980s. The early 80s subculture was very mixed, with punks and new romantics. Some were called swampies or Birthday Party girls. While punk was more working class 80s Goth in Melbourne was more middle-class and a night-time subculture. While the punks and Goths mixed fairly well there are sometimes tensions these days.
• Abyss nightclub, run by Lisa Marshall 'the Baroness'.
• 'Kindergoths' hang out around Alexandra Gardens on the Yarra on Friday nights.
• Gown of Thorns in Fitzroy.
